Street Fighter IV Details, Screenshot Revealed

streetfighteriv.jpg

Early this morning (at least, it was early in North America), Capcom revealed the first details and a screenshot from their upcoming fighter sequel Street Fighter IV. The first question everyone wanted to know - 2D or 3D? - has been answered. Although the game will consist of 3D polygons, the gameplay will be strictly 2D. The next question on everyone's mind - what obscene thing is going on in Ryu's pants up there? - has yet to be answered. Maybe they figure the way to compete with the Dead or Alive girls was to add some jiggle to the boys. No complaints here!

They didn't answer where we can expect to play Street Fighter IV, however, leaving most to speculate between Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and the Arcade, or some combination of the three, based on the screenshot. Also in the air is a release date, although rumors of the game's production date back to 2005, so hopefully we won't wait too long. For more information, you might want to pick up up next month's issue of EGM or check out their website - it looks like they'll be adding new details periodically throughout the month. Actually, if you look at the hi-res version on 1up, it looks less like a bulge and more like part of his shirt. How sad... I can't say it would have been hot to see all of the guys with their packages on display and jiggling, but it definitely would have made me giggle.

The big question is it 2D or 3D? :P

Hmm. Don't know if want... Capcom has pretty much failed at making good 3d fighting games since Rival Schools, but if this one is 2D with 3D sprites... My main questions are these. Is it going to be further down the timeline like SF3? If so, how is Ryu still fighting? Shouldn't he be, like, 45-50 now? And why does he look so damn ugly now?

I think this just might be what it takes to interest me in the Street Fighter franchise once again. I really like the style.

Ryu was never pretty to start with.
Well, 2.5D eh? Nothing new, capcom did well with Plasma sword and Project Justice, it was the "Akira" company that made the other crappy 3D fighters. Give capcom a chance ^^

Nah, anime-style Ryu from the Alpha games was hawt. And he's never looked ugly... at least, not like this. Boxface. :-P

And as far as Capcom making good 3D games... I'm just not ready to believe. I've been burned so many times in the past. Don't get me wrong, there isn't a power on Earth that will keep me from playing SF IV when it comes out, I'm just worried I'll regret that action.

Anyone wondering about the graphics or game controls, click on the 1up article that is linked to from the post. 1up covers that stuff enough to answer the simple questions. :)

What's with the "Capcom makes crappy 3D games!" remarks? Power Stone 1 and 2 were both one of the greatest fighting games I've ever played and *Gasp* both are in full 3D.

I just vomited into my mouth a little bit. Jesus GOD that's ugly looking.
Well, guess I'll not be playing it. I guess 3rd Strike really was the last true Street Fighter game.

(pours out a pint for his fallen homey, sprite-based 2-D)

Ryu looks like Hulk now, especially in the EGM cover pic. His penis is angry in both pics.

Jaesin said:

Agreed, power stone 1 and 2 were fantastic... I would be so excited if they came out with those on the PSN store.

But this also looks like a lot of fun.

Brian said:

Well, gee. I was really hoping for beautiful 2D fighting game.

ed said:

Oh great not in 2D.Oh well I hope this is better than 3rd Strike. On that note, add me to your friend list on Xbox live "dominiward" and let's play Street Fighter 3. :-)

Hmm... I guess I just don't see the appeal of this particular series. Sure, the previous games have been fun, but I guess I must be missing what makes people so much more obsessed over it than say Soul Calibur or Guilty Gear or something. Oh well, to each his own! I'll still be willing to give the game a try when it comes out.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
