The Terminator Will Be Back

You can't keep a good murderous robot down, I guess. The Halcyon Co., which own the rights to the Terminator movie franchise, has announced that it's forming its own gaming franchise to make a tie-in game for the upcoming Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. You know, the one with Christian Bale in it (supposedly). Unfortunately, despite this fantastic Lego Terminator skull I found online, it's not going to be a Lego: Terminator game. (But wouldn't that be awesome?!)
As with most licensed games, the Terminator title is expected to hit every platform under the sun including mobile phones, and as with most licensed product, it will probably enjoy sales that aren't directly proportional to the actual quality of the game.
"We don't want the game to be the stepchild to the film," said Halcyon co-CEO Derek Anderson. "They're of equal importance, and we want both to be of the same quality and be the same compelling experience."
Hm. Not sure if that's good news for the game or bad news for the movie. Seriously, the only thing more worriesome to me than a film company trying to break into the videogame business is the fact that they've also secured first-look rights to the works of Philip K. Dick. The very idea of remaking Blade Runner sends shivers down my spine. I think I'd rather play a licensed Terminator videogame...

Goddamn you, wootini. Now I want a lego terminator game to go with my Pokemon MMO. And I don't know, A Maze of Death could make for a rather compelling movie or game, and Rautavaara's Case is a less subtle version of the Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep story that could work as a DS point and click adventure. And We Can Remember It For You Wholesale would be woven into an action game that would make everyone who saw Total Recall want their money backā¦again.
I have no interest in this new Terminator movie if James Cameron isn't writing/directing. That's why I didn't see T3 (and from what I hear, I'm lucky I didn'r).
As for remaking Blade Runner...whoever tried that would have to have balls of solid titanium.
