Video: College Professors Love Too Human
Silicon Knights presents a short video, hosted here by Jeux France, that lays out some of the general ideas and concepts behind the making of their upcoming Xbox 360 title Too Human. I mean, really general - the video is less about Too Human, and more about what should go into every videogame. Besides company president Denis Dyack and the director of design Henry Sterchy talking about their goals in creating game worlds, they also give time to a film studies professor and a psychologist talking about immersion and discussing the concept of "Flow" (not fl0w), and how both take you out of your physical surroundings in different ways. Pretentious? A little, but that's why everyone loves/hates Silicon Knights! At least Sterchy boils it down for the little people:
If I had to summarize overall as a designer what we're looking for, you know, from a gamer's standpoint of the experience, they should smile, they should have fun, and they should be happy in what they do. ... If they pick up the controller and they're smiling, that's the goal.
Besides all the blah blah, there are a few glimpses of the game's environments and battles, although almost nothing new about the characters or story. The game's still set for release next year, so hopefully this will be the start of a push for the game. Given Dyack's generally prickly opinion about game previews, any news is good news, I guess.

I'm totally looking forward to this game. The passion going into it seems pretty astounding and the understanding of what makes a game good really hit a chord with me.
I don't really think it's pretentious of them to bring in professors to help them. If those guys can give SK a better understanding of what they need to to, the more power to 'em. Personally, if the story/writing is anything like they say it will be, I'll be satisfied...
