Video: Wii-habilitate Young Burn Victims
I don't always see a lot of real-world goodness over at Gamevideos, but this Serious Games application is too cool to resist - and it's rare to see footage of Serious Games in action. Here we've got a young burn victim (don't worry, nothing too Freddy Kreugery) who dons a VR helmet and plays a simple Wii game via a big red button. The reason? Lowering anxiety - which can also lower sensitivity to pain. When you're a 14 year-old who needs regular cleaning of a serious burn wound, both anxiety and pain are things to fear.
Congrats to the enterprising Wii-folk out there for using the system for good, and sharing it with us!

nothing too freddy kreugery...? im all for bad taste but seriously - that's pretty insensitive (not to mention insulting) to people who hafta live with that kinda trauma. i know ya meant no harm, but still...
u lied to me tiny how could u there was no wii mention in this video *cries*
I'm with Dodgy. I understand why you'd want to let readers know if they were about to watch something disturbing, but there's no need to be so crass about these kids. Also, no Wii.
Incidentally, I got to play with one of things at the 2006 Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial, if "play" is the right word. It's less about the snowball game and more about being surrounded by a cold, relaxing environment.
