World of Goo Creator: "Indie Games Are Self-Expression For The Motivated Misfit"

Gamasutra has a short interview with Ron Carmel and Kyle Gabler, founders of 2-D Boy game studio and makers of the upcoming World of Goo, a nominee for the IGF 2008 Seumas McNally Grand Prize (as well as two other IGF awards). The interview lets the two cover a little bit of their background and the ideas behind Goo, as well as their development process. Don't miss the cameo from Madonna, Gabler's cat and important member of the 2-D Boy team.
Regarding the indie and DIY gaming scene, Gabler shares a few thoughts:
Indie games are the new form of self expression for the motivated misfit. I'm blown away by little Flash games oozing with style made by kids who aren't even old enough to drink, wtf? The community of lovable and terrifyingly capable indie developers is steadily making big budgets irrelevant.Actually, that would be a fun game. You get a Nuclear Irrelevant Gun 5000 and blast giant studios and they bleed money. Maybe there's a time limit.
World of Goo is described as a "physics-based puzzler ... featuring balls of goo that don't realize they are delicious." I can definitely relate. The game is due Valentine's Day (aw!) on the PC and a bit later on Mac, Linux, and Wii. The art style is gorgeous and twisted, like Invader Zim crossed with Parappa. Check out the trailer after the break, and keep your eyes open for more information about the game next year.
