Your Xbox 360 Can Blog! (And it should.)

360voicenew.jpg

I'm completely flying by the seat of my brand new pants this weekend, trying to not mention which one of my consoles exploded and scared me so badly that I had to go buy said new pair of pants. Okay, well it didn't really explode and I needed the pants anyway, but what's important is that I'm staying positive and using this weekend to highlight some of my favorite things about gaming.

Earlier today, I pointed everyone to my favorite video game trading site, only to come home to find a notification that Metroid Prime 3: Corruption was on its way to me. Fantastic. This evening I am going to direct you to another fun little spot on the internet, one that will should make even my most narcissistic friends happy -- a blog that is all about YOU. Keep reading to find out how.

If you've always wanted to feel more like a hardcore gamer (whatever that is) by having someone who dedicated their spare time to blogging about you and your gaming exploits, your Jebus dreams have been answered! Well, they were actually answered long ago, but I'm just now getting the chance to post about it. What for a while seemed to be one of the great gaming secrets on the internet is now a successful and growing entity, most recently partnering with Microsoft Old Spice in regards to the upcoming installment of the Old Spice Experience Challenge.

The crux of the site is simple. You register your Xbox Live gamertag with 360voice. "It" blogs. You read its blog via web or RSS feeds. I am always a bit cynical about some of the gimmicky value-add services that are around these days and didn't understand immediately how reading a daily account of my Xbox shenanigans could actually affect my gameplay habits. But thanks to the clever and amusing writing, I found myself feeling guilty for even being on turkey day vacation, away from my Xbox, as I read the November 26th weekly recap:

"Do you know what time of the week it is? Time to talk about what happened these last seven days: I wish I had something good to blog about, but I don't. In my fantasy world TexCub and I played all these great games and got all this gamerscore... but that didn't happen. Not a single day of gaming took place last week." TexCub's 360 Can Blog, 11/26/2007

While I'm sure there is plenty of technical wizardry behind 360voice that collects and processes billions of bits of gamertag and achievement data each day, the part that has continually drawn me into the service since joining in 2006 is the fun of the writing and the detailed play history. Looking back over the last 17 months in my 360voice blog's archives, it's easy to wax poetic about February 12th when I broke 10,000 gamerscore playing Viva Pinata. It's easy to look at May 25th and remember the thrill of finding the 500th agility orb in Crackdown. (On top of the light house!) I've never before had an opportunity to look back at nearly my entire gaming history on a console, all nicely blogged about for posterity and it's quite a lot of fun.

So take a moment and get on over to 360voice and register your gamertag so your Xbox 360 can get blogging! Don't forget to come back and share your 360voice with me so I can add you to my GayGamer 360voice RSS feeds!

I agree. It's a fun site that I use to check everyday until I got the same thing you did. I also lost a nice gamign streak and I was kind of high on the most played games list :(

Okay, that was cute and clever enough that I signed up immediately. No idea how they set it up to write what it does, but I'll be very interested to see what my Xbox has to say about me!

I'll be interested to see if your 360 knows it died, Tex, or if it's going to be living in denial and wondering why you're not playing any games on it...

Hey thanks for the mention! That was a great write up! Quick clarification on the Old Spice Challenge, we aren't partnering with MS, we are partnering with Old Spice directly who has decided to bring prizes to the community through the community this time. So that is exciting.

It is so great that you appreciate the gaming history. We wanted to allow exactly what you are talking about... the ability to link someone to a specific DAY of gaming and what happened... and then we added a little flair by doing it from your Xbox's perspective. So I am glad that goal is translating!

If you have any questions about the service, feel free to ask! We are happy to answer! mail@360voice.com.

Thanks, TOMATO. He's a favorite comedian of mine. One of many that I can't get enough of, like Maria Bamford. Her CD How To Win is hilarious. (Temp want cake!) Patton Oswalt and Sara Silverman are favorites also, but for reasons that are my own, my very favorite is absolutely Zach Galifianakis. If you haven't seen Comedians of Comedy, go pick it up on DVD right now. You'll thank me later.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
