ABC, Disney, MGM Make Their Way To XBLM

In a press release from CES yesterday, Microsoft announced that the venerable MGM Studios will be bringing their massive library of movies to Xbox LIVE's video download service. ABC and parent company Disney have also signed on which means you will be able to download your favorite ABC shows including Ugly Betty, LOST, Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy the day after the episodes appear on air. Some older ABC programming will be available as well dating all the way back to 1963. ABC Family and Disney Channel shows will be available as well.
No word yet on what the price point will be for these offerings, but I hope it won't be prohibitive. It will be interesting to see how this affects ABC's online content because as of right now, you can download full episodes for free online. Will this put an end to this non-pay service? However the chips fall, this is great news for Xbox and Xbox owners, although personally I think I will always opt for a nice hard copy on DVD. Because if that hard drive fails, there goes your library. That said, the ability to download some of my favorite movies and Tv shows in HD without having to pay Blu-ray or HD DVD prices is awfully tempting. I may need to rethink my strategy.

And for all this internet downloaded content, the writer's get nothing.
Now you see why the WGA strike is still going on.
disclosure: I live in Los Angeles and have friends in the WGA who are out of work atm.
