Brazil Bans EverQuest, 1998 Wants Its Hype Back

everquest.jpg

In a move that finalizes an order from last October, a judge in Brazil has confirmed a ban on both the FPS Counter-Strike and, that's right, legendary MMORPG Everquest. The logic here comes from the decision that these two particular games are "harmful to consumers' health" as well as "an attack against the democratic state and the law and against public security."

First of all, I completely agree: anybody who's still playing EverQuest most certainly is putting themselves in danger. Of being hopelessly out of date. What will happen in 2016 when WoW hits the radar of the Brazilian judicial system is anybody's guess.

While the reasons for the EverQuest ban are murky at best, the Counter-Strike ban is likely due to a mod set in Rio that allows users to play as a drug trafficker rather than a terrorist. That's understandable - at least one could make a solid real-world argument against the influence of the game. But... EverQuest?

Whatever, this is idiotic, and hopefully the Brazilian people won't stand for it.

Now I understand why I've never heard of this Everquest... it's that old...
I'm Brazilian and when I first heard about the prohibition of these games I found out that Everquest isn't even produced here, what made think that it was some new game I still hadn't heard about, but I didn't have enough curiosity to look for info regarding the game itself. It makes me wonder where the hell has that judge heard of it. That incompetent judge is nothing but a foolishly foolish fool who deserves some whipping. =p

According to PROCON (the organ for consumers defense, which is collecting the games from the market) Everquest is a game that "generates heavy psychologic conflicts in the player's mind, because the tasks in the game may be good or bad. The bad ones may be lies, blackmail and even assassinations, and many times the player finds out that the tasks where tests for him to be accepted in a clan".

About Counter Strike, here in Brazil the game is classified as 18+ and distributed by EA Brasil. Electronic Arts can not be made responsible for "a mod set in Rio that allows users to play as a drug trafficker rather than a terrorist" since all of these features are unnoficial.
I don't think this stupid prohibition will last for long.

Oh, so gaming's all about being up to date? Funny, I thought it was about high-quality games. Excuse me, I'll just go and piss all over some of the classics that still hold up to the test of time, then. Okay, Monkey Island 1, close your eyes and open your mouth...

Congratulations, you not only missed the context, and point of Dinhos post [That been for the slower here that they've banned something nobody's even heard of in Brazil, pointlessly for no other reason but to make headlines]..

Contemporise man....... don't piss too much, save it for the third track..

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
