Canis Lupus Onlineus: Get Wolfy With WolfQuest

While it doesn't boast the ElfQuest tie-in that my inner child was hoping for, WolfQuest does bring ecology and education to bear on a 1-5 player online experience developed in partnership with Eduweb and the Minnesota Zoo, thanks to a $500K grant from the National Science Foundation. In this wolfy world you'll play a wolf, surprise, who must hunt its prey, defend its turf, and both establish a pack and cooperate to survive. The game is free, and its developers hope it will help garner interest to protect our non-simulated habitats.
In addition to teaching kids and players about the problem of sub-optimization (ie, a selfish wolf is a dead wolf, but a team player is warm and fed), the gameplay sounds interestingly complex. It ain't Afrika (but of course, neither is Afrika), but players will need to use "scent vision" and other realistic aspects of wolfdom to score their next meal from herds of elk or the odd hare.
