CES 2008: Take Your Blu-ray Movie On The Go

There has been so much exciting news about PSP capabilities coming out of CES this year, I had to expound on one more. The format wars have been an dramatic one to watch this generation with HD DVD and Blu-ray squaring off like the battle of the titans. Features began to surface about the ongoing development of Blu-ray technology with Profile 2.0, the recent Warner exclusivity, and the tables began to tip in favor of Blu-ray over the competitor. To kick the competing format while its down, Sony has unveiled the ability for Blu-ray owners to pop their disk into the PS3 and rip a lower resolution file to their PSP memory stick to play it on the go. Try to do that on an HD DVD player. Yup, you wouldn't even know where to begin.
This is a great way to extend the value of a Blu-ray purchase. Not only is the video incredibly crisp, but you can make a copy on your portable to take on that excruciating commute to work everyday. Now that's what I call progress.

Not to play the part of the cynic, but let me get this straight:
I can buy a proprietary Sony PS/3, a Blu-Ray DVD (for which Sony gets a royalty), then copy said movie to a proprietary Sony Memory Stick to play in my proprietary Sony PSP.
Progress for whom exactly?
Sadly the only game I would want on this system is that God of War sequel.
Let us not forget that doing so might require the space that only the $300 16Gb Memory Stick Duo from Sony can provide.
