CES 2008: Wii Arsenal Coming

wiiarsenal.jpg

Well, anyone who made a fuss over the Wii Zapper isn't going to like this. Not one bit. Seems that CTA Digital used CES to unveil an entire arsenal of Wiimote gun peripherals. There's a Magnum Gun, a submachinegun-like Buzz Gun and even a Shot Gun. (Does splitting it two words make it okay for parents?) And what's hilarious is that apparently some of them have built-in laser pointers. Because the red dot will help you aim at your TV? Isn't that why shooting games have reticles already?

Honestly, I feel like Wii peripherals are kind of unnecessary anyway. Even the Wii Zapper is really just a hunk of plastic that you use to hold the Wiimote and Nunchuck. (How exactly are games "optimized" for the Zapper, again?) I'll give you that placing the controllers in a gun configuration adds to the gameplay somewhat. And I'll even give you the racing wheel allowing better control than simply twisting the Wiimote. But it seems that any company can make a white plastic anything and call it a Wii controller as long as the Wiimote fits in it. Which is why the same company is also making Wii boxing gloves, swords, fishing rods, pool cues and cooking utensils. Hell, they've even got a flight simulator yoke that you fit both the Wiimote and Nunchuck into. And there's not even a game that uses the controllers like that!

Does anybody really buy this crap?

Wii Need Guns. Lots Of Guns.

Makes me glad I don't have a Wii. I'm totally one of those suckers that would buy stupid peripherals for it. Hell, I don't even have one and I'm still tempted to buy the shotgun!

Viva America!

MOST peripherals may be unnecessary, but I NEED these. I would love to have a wall full of Wii Guns. Now..if only more games used them :( House of the dead 3 used a shotgun, and 4 (if it ever comes out) had an smg...... all they need to make now is a Rocket Launcher...and an actual Crossbow

Wait, wait. Exactly what kind of cooking utensils?

When playing Link's Crossbow Training (game that comes with the zapper) I frequently had the thought "this would be a lot easier without the zapper..."

That shotgun looks pretty sexy. It has what the zapper desperately needs: a good stock.

cooking utensils probably come with knives and you can probably use that while playing manhunt

I seriously can't believe anyone who buys these. Although I have to agree with Anotherbobhead, as I wouldnt mind a wall full of Wii guns.
