Downloaded Songs Might Be Playable In Rock Band Sequel

So you've spent your last dime, and sold your spleen to pay for Rock Band to rock every night and part of every day. After buying all of the tracks from the weekly selection of Add-on content on the PS3 or Xbox 360, you may hear your wallet begin to squeal as you think about the inevitability of the sequel. What is going to happen to all of the music you already purchased? EGM sat down with Greg LoPiccolo, VP of product development at Harmonix. He assures us that Harmonix has heard your pleas and offered this in response.
Our conception [of the DLC program] is as a platform. And the conception of a platform that makes sense is that you don't buy all your new CDs every year. We totally hear you on that.
Don't take this as confirmation to integrate all of the downloaded content into the next installment of Rock Band, but at least know they are considering it. After the great success by fans and critics alike, Harmonix would be foolish not to allow the migration of content payed for by their already eager install base.
Rock Band songs in sequel: "We totally hear you on that." [Ars Technica]

You know, I had not really thought ahead to a Rock Band 2, but I can imagine I would be more than annoyed if my Rock Band DLC wasn't compatible with any future version of Rock Band. I am annoyed already that I have to pull out Guitar Hero II for the My Chemical Romance DLC, but with different publishers and licensing... Whaddaya gonna do?
This might be another chance for Harmonix to take differentiate Rock Band from Guitar Hero. The competition ultimately benefits the players who, I think like me, just want to "play" great music.
