Ender's Game Chaired

Ender's Game

Chair, most recently known for their Xbox Live Arcade title Undertow, had just secured rights to create a game based off Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game. To the uninformed, Ender's Game is a book is in world under attack by a race of aliens called "Buggers" and follows a young prodigy named Ender. I'll refrain from spoiling details for those who have not read it, because it's a fantastic book.

“From the moment I started working with Donald Mustard and his team at Chair, I knew that these were the guys I wanted to do the first Ender's Game video game,” said Card. “It's not enough to slap the Ender's Game name on just any game - it has to be exciting, memorable, and endlessly replayable. Chair shares my understanding of this and I am looking forward to working with them to ensure the game is as authentically Enderish as possible.”

Using the Unreal 3 engine, Chair hopes to bring this game to life. No announcements have been made about the target platform(s) and we can only hope that this game will live up to the legend that is the book itself. While there is currently a movie in production based around the book, the game and movie will be independant of each other.

It's a shame that Orson Scott Card hates The Gays... his books are pretty darn good.

Is this the one that Zone of Enders is also based on?

Sach said:

AWESOME! And no, Nexus, it isn't. That had giant robots in it, right? Definitely not.

This is tremendously exciting. :3 I hope they make three different game engines, one for the Battle Room, one for the Game (the one with the Giant's drink) Ender plays, and another for the simulator he gets his hands on later in the book. It's a lot to ask for, but that would kick so much but it isn't funny. *Probably going to be disappointed.*

At least I'm not the first to whine about this, but our community should not be supporting this man in any capacity. I'm a little surprised that gaygamer (and sister sites) report on him without mentioning this important issue. Until he wants to apologize for comments like this...

"I think there are a lot of reasons people should be able to be fired. It should be perfectly legitimate to fire somebody for that reason [being lesbian or gay] or reasons like it." {from Salon.com)

...I'm not interested in hearing/seeing/supporting anything he makes.

I love Card. However I hate Chair as Undertow is a turd so I can only imagine the horrors they will unleash upon my beloved series of novels.

The book was ok, I honestly don't see what people like about it so much. Also the fact that it was written by a man who has made such homophobic statements as the one posted above by another commenter and numerous others (see his wikipedia article), makes me surprised and somewhat sad to see it hyped by this otherwise great website.

Interesting. The Library community is up in arms about Card being awarded the Margaret A. Edwards Award for "an author's work in helping adolescents become aware of themselves and addressing questions about their role and importance in relationships, society, and in the world." But here, people are predominantly interested in the game. Are librarians overacting or are gamers just easier going?

I don't think we're easier going, just uninformed. That or ignorant. It doesn't matter how good his work is. If we support this guy in any way, we're just putting more money in his pocket to spout more hate against us. It's as bad as running around in ambercrombie apparel even though they too have denounced us.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
