Final Fantasy XIII Release Date? Don't You Believe It!
It seems that some video game websites have gone out on a limb and posted rumors regarding a confirmed release date for Final Fantasy XIII. Usually these sorts of things go by without a word, but Square Enix has gone so far as to issue a statement refuting the rumors on their company website.
ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING FINAL FANTASY XIII RELEASE DATEAlthough information regarding the release date of FINAL FANTASY XIII has been reported by certain videogame websites, Square Enix itself has yet to make an official statement on this topic. Any reports of a confirmed release date are erroneous and should be disregarded.
Square Enix will make an official announcement in the future concerning the release date when it has been determined.
So there you have it, straight from the horses mouth. If you have seen any rumors about FF XIII release dates, take them with a grain of salt. You'll know when Square Enix wants you to know. You got that, bub?!

This ain't getting released in Japan until Summer 2009 at the earliest, I would imagine. Which means we're probably looking at a Christmas 09 release if we're lucky.
Given how little information has trickled out, my guess is that Square-Enix is having trouble trying to simultaneously develop the White Engine AND getting to know the notorious Cell Processor.
At the very least, this means more time for the PS3 to come down in price before I have to buy one.
*sigh* another Final Fantasy that goes really light on the "fantasy."
they ought to just begin naming the new games Final Technocracy and be done with it.
The development cycles for Final Fantasy games seem to be lengthening by an order of magnitude each game.
Final Fantasy XII took forever. And so far, I won't be holding my breath in anticipation for XIII.
On the plus side, PS3 will be budget priced by then and I may pick one up just for the hell of it.
