Gore Verbinski Keynote Speaker For D.I.C.E.

The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) announced today that legendary film director Gore Verbinski, lately of Pirates of the Caribbean fame, will deliver the keynote address at February's D.I.C.E. Summit (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain). While he ain't no Ray Kurzweil, Verbinski will be expounding upon the foundations of successful filmmaking and how those fundaments can be applied to games and the way games entertain players.
Sez Verbinski:
"As the collision between film, gaming, Internet and animation occurs, we're witnessing the birth of new forms of narrative. Sharing ideas and experiences at the point of impact is the only way to ensure that the new opportunities remain fluid. With initial success, the arteries harden. The business model forces the creative landscape into a narrowing perspective where we tend to create followers instead of innovators. I'm interested in developing a collaboration that will widen that field of view."
For a man who's scaled big-name commercial videos (he did the croaking Budweiser frogs, among others), music videos, them's big words. I'm looking forward to hearing more big words from Verbinski in early Feb. Make the jump for the details.

Verbinski's career path took a different direction as he moved from music videos to commercials, where he worked for blockbuster brands including Nike, Coca-Cola, Canon, Skittles, and United Airlines. A highlight during his tenure in commercial development was the award-winning Budweiser frogs croaking the brand name. Verbinski's commercial efforts were recognized and rewarded with four CLIO Awards and a Cannes Advertising Silver Lion Award.
