K-Mart Game Thief Busted

Wow. Sometimes you can't make this stuff up if you tried. Apparently, 21-year-old K-mart employee Nathan Gustafson in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, stole over $7,000 worth of electronics. How, you ask? Well, see, there's the tricky bit. Instead of just taking things outright, Gustafson simply put the items he wanted inside of larger boxes, then purchased said item. For instance, he swiped 30 DVDs, two Xbox controllers and 10 games by hiding them inside of a Crock-Pot box that he bought a few days later. But he was busted when he attempted to steal an Xbox 360 hard drive, two Xbox 360 HD-DVD players and two PlayStation 3 systems by pretending they were a microwave oven and a toaster oven. (Guess he hasn't heard that HD-DVD is on the way out!)
I absolutely love that this guy went through all this effort to steal these things, but did so by hiding them in the boxes of lower-priced items that he bought. I always thought that stealing meant taking things without paying. Go figure. Well, he's busted, and faces up to three years in prison for felony theft. So the lesson here is to just save up your money and use your employee discount. Okay, kids?

Guy had a great idea. I'm guessing he packed a box in front of a camera or something.
People like to do this everywhere. Additionally people take the UPC code off of cheaper items and put it on more expensive ones.
:P
That one can be hard to pull off, Jeb. I worked retail for a bit, and we had a couple of people get caught doing that because the items rang up as something very different. (ex. a train set ringing up as a board game.)
Yeah. The SPC thing is pretty obvious. You might be able to do it in a cheaper store using ancient machines but most places have cash registers with monitors and all.
If he didn't went overboard and greedy to make profit by selling the stuff he'd buy, he could have probably gotten away with it if he just kept the stuff for himself :P
