Looking Back On 2007: Politics & Gaming

americanflag.jpg

2007 was definitely a significant year for the gaming industry, to say the least. While it was undoubtably noteworthy thanks to all the big releases (Halo 3, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, to name a few), a number of us stood up and took notice throughout the year because of the way in which politicians tried to affect the gaming industry. Whether it was lawsuits against game developers, failed legislation aimed at limiting game sales, politicians appearing in MMOs, or city officials getting pissy in regards to how their city is portrayed in a game, there was rarely a dull moment this last year.

In case you missed any of this stuff, Dennis McCauley of GamePolitics has written an excellent summary surrounding the different items of political news over the past 365 days. Sadly, there are a few paragraphs mentioning everyone's least favorite attorney from Florida (admittedly, he did generate a lot of news), but the rest of the article is a fantastic read which I'd recommend to anyone who follows political news stories.
