Video: Morning Mashup- Timi Yuro And Final Fantasy
Whilst perusing You Tube last night with my boyfriend, I wanted to show him one of my favorite soul singers from the 60's, Timi Yuro. She has a heartbreaking voice that instantly struck a chord with me when I saw her on her Scopitones video Fruit Brute used to play around the house. When I found her collection of videos on You Tube, they were mostly still photos with her song playing, but to my surprise there was a Final Fantasy X-2 video mashup with my Timi. The song is "The Love of a Boy", composed by Burt Bacharach and Hal David and recorded in 1963. I'm just amazed that anyone would put these two fine pieces together, they are an odd combination but work in a very tender way. Enjoy!

Timi Yuro was a friend of mine. I saw her last in 2001 when she came to New York to receive an award at the Nassau Colliseum. Mary Wilson of the Supremes came out especially to see her old touring buddy. It was a bittersweet reunion.
Our friend, author, David Freeland (LADIES OF SOUL), gave Timi a big party at his apartment in the Village and we had a marvelous time. R & B legend and old friend of Timi's, Maxine Brown, performed.
Timi couldn't talk, she had to push a device on her neck, but she could be understood. It was heartbreaking because her music played all during the party. We talked about many things that evening, including her career and the people she worked with through the years. Flashbulbs flashed all night, Timi signed autographs -- great soiree.
In 2003, I suggested to a publisher friend of mine in England to do a feature story on Timi and he thought it was a great idea. He worked it out with Timi and her husband, Robert, and the article was eventually completed with the help of Timi's family, friends and fans. Unfortunately, Timi died before article was published in 2004. It was the best article I've ever read on her. The magazine is IN THE BASEMENT, Issue No 34, May-July 2004.
