Rumor: Sam & Max Confirmed For The Wii?

samandmaxwii.jpg

Game publisher JoWooD, in a German press release touting their recent Wii adaptation of Agatha Cristie's And Then There Were None, let a little something slip. In the original German:

JoWooD plant weitere seiner erfolgreichen Lizenzen aus dem Adventure Games für Nintendo® Wii™ zu adaptieren. Eines der nächsten Projekte: Sam & Max. Als Adventure des Jahres, gewählt von den Lesern des deutschen Computerspielmagazins „PC Games“ (zu finden in der aktuellen Printausgabe 2/2008), gehen Sam & Max bald auch bei Nintendo® Wii™ auf Verbrecherjagd.

Which roughly translates to:

We're adapting Sam & Max for the Wii.

Those Germans sure are wordy!

Lazy Panda reported way back last February about Telltale seeking Wii programmers, but this is the first hint since then that something might be forthcoming from the studio. The assumption is that they'll be presenting Season One of the episodic game, but the question remains whether the game will appear in chunks as Wii Ware downloads, or as a compilation disk. Of course, they could also skip ahead to the second season (episode 2 of season 2, Moai Better Blues, was just released last week) or even come out with a brand new game no one knows anything about yet.

We'll see how this pans out - it could be bunk but it seems pretty legit, at least I can't think of a reason the company would just outright lie about publishing the game in the future. My guess is it looks like someone just forgot to tell those Germans about a pesky NDA.

Neither English nor German is my native tongue, but I will give it a try anyway:

"JoWooD plans to adapt more of its successful licenses from the Adventure Games to the Nintendo ® Wii ™. One of the next projects: Sam & Max. As Adventure of the Year, chosen by the readers of the German computer game magazine "PC Games" (wich you can find in current issue 2/2008), Sam & Max will soon hunt for criminals on the Nintendo ® Wii ™ too."

Oh, Dawdle, you'd better not be teasing me...

I am the biggest Sam & Max fan, and have been dying to play the new games, but being a Mac user, have been hoping and praying for someone to bring it to a console. And the Wii is perfect for pointing and clicking!

Oh please be true... please...
