Rumor: Snake Sneaking Onto the 360?
Is there an inconspicuous cardboard box lurking around the hallways of Microsoft? Could be, if the rumor I've been seeing dancing around the interwebs like a post-holiday sugarplum is any indication. Apparently, Konami is confirming that the hotly-anticipated Metal Gear Solid 4 is not going to be a PlayStation 3 exclusive after all. Turns out that it's in the works for the 360, and has been since last year.
Now, it's not scheduled to hit the 360 until 12-14 months after the PS3 release, so don't get too excited, Xboxers. The PS3 players will have a whole year to enjoy it before you get your sweaty little hands on it in, like, 2009. If this rumor is true, of course, which I kind of think it is. I mean, it would make sense for Konami to hedge its bets by releasing MGS4 on another console. Because the PS3 may be selling better every day, but with the budget that Solid Snake's latest adventure likely has racked up, they're going to need to make their money back somehow!

There is no surprise in this statement. The surprise would have been them keeping it exclusive. They cannot possibly make enough money to cover costs on the PS3 alone.

I am not surprised... After all, MGS2:substance was released for the xbox. And the original was released for gamecube and dubbed "the twin snakes". I do wonder though if this will be a release of the original version, or a modified version like the twin snakes, substance, or subsistance was? My assumption would be the latter.
Dave... was that really necessary?
Anyway, I'm not surprised that they would bring the game to the Xbox 360; they will have a larger potential market that way. And with as much as this game apparently is costing them to produce, they will need a LOT of people to buy it before it will begin to turn a profit for them.

Man stuff like that is making me regret a PS3 even more >.
If the 360 version's control setup is as broken as the Xbox version of MGS2's was, I'll stick with the PS3 version, thanks.

"if you want to play the game you are going to have to buy a PS3"

But from a business stand point I think they have little other options. Simply put, that game just costs too much to produce and the PS3 doesn't have the audience of the PS1/PS2 to recoup what they've spent.
A key factor here is that since MGS1 on the PS1, sales of the game have declined each installment. The series may be a critical darling and have some very rapid fans (self included), but the increased nit-picky detail (3's cammo/health systems), and storytelling missteps (Raiden, nuff said!) have turned a lot of potential players away. The series just isn't as big of a deal as most hardcore gamers think it is. Games like Devil May Cry sell more and look what happened to that.
chwisch87, Shinji Mikami also said he'd eat his own head if Resident Evil 4 ever came out on anything other than the gamecube.

For the record, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is a PlayStation 3 exclusive and there are no plans to develop an Xbox 360 version of the game.
