Sarah Michelle Gellar's American McGee's Alice Movie May Be Coming
The movie adaptation of American McGee's Alice has been on and off of the chopping block for years. Ever since American made a splash with his innovative action platformer back in 2000, there have been movie talks circulating about. At one time it was rumored Tim Burton would animate the film, but that didn't go through. Apparently after Sarah Michelle Gellar watched her hubby Freddie Prinze Jr. play the game, she became interested in the tale of Alice. Gellar then acquired the rights to the game and Universal picked up the movie to pump some serious money into the project. Then there was a regime change, and development has been put on hold.
"It's a passion project of mine. It's a story that I'd love to see. I'm fearful at this rate that I'm going to be the wicked Queen of Hearts because I'm going to be too old to be Alice," she added with a laugh.
Gellar seems dedicated to seeing Alice brought to life again. If the studio would go ahead and make the movie, I don't think they would have a hard time selling tickets unless it turns out like complete crap and gets raped by awful reviews. There are tons of Alice fans out there, fans of the game, and fans of the Lewis Carroll novels, fans of the Disney film. IMDB has the movie slated for a July release, which is highly unlikely at this point. We can only hope that the film is completed so we can revisit Alice once more.

as much as i loved Alice, knowing that SMG's involved has me nervous.

I'm pretty sick of this trend of taking perfectly serviceable fairy tales and stories and gothing them up. Quit being lazy all you 'edgy' folks.

Wow edeo, you better stay away from gametap later this year. To everyone who likes Alice American Mcgee and the writer of alice have a new series in production called Grimm for gametap.
I enjoyed the game, difficult as it was (mostly the controls...), but I'm not entirely sure that it warrants a movie version. There really wasn't a whole lot of story involved, as I recall. In any case, the game's soundtrack was awesome.
