There Can Be Only One!
(Highlander Game On Each System)

Some franchises never die, even if you chop off their heads. Atari and Eidos announced today the development of Highlander for the Xbox 360, Games For Windows and PlayStation 3. They'll be using the Unreal Engine 3, and the game will be written by David Abramowitz, who wrote for the Highlander TV series. Though there's no word as to what storyline the game will actually tell, you'll be playing another immortal MacLeod, Owen, so it should be original, not an adaptation of anything pre-existing.
“Highlander itself is a cult classic. Practically everyone has heard of it and we wanted to offer the first ever next-generation videogame of the franchise,” said Darren Barnett, Development Director, Eidos. “Having a central character that is immortal and has roamed the earth for 2000 years opens up so many gameplay opportunities in terms of story, environments, predicaments and enemies – Highlander is a thrilling adventure for both fans of the franchise and fans of explosive, fast-paced third person action games.”
The game is expected to be out later this year (in time for the holidays would be my guess), allowing fans to take on the role of the immortal Owen Macleod, playing through 2000 years of his life. That's the part of the game that's most intriguing to me. You'll play in medieval Scotland, battle samurai in Japan and explore modern day New York. As long as the rest of the game is good, having all that variety to explore could be wicked fun. Too bad a Wii version isn't in development as well so we could lop off people's heads with a quick swoop of our Wiimote!

It seems like the long dreamed of game that lets you really use a katana (or other sword) for the Wii hasn't come to pass yet... or if it has it's sucked like Red Steel and that Soul Caliber game.
They released screenshots as well.
