Video: Devil World On Virtual Console

Apparently Devil World is the only Shigero Miyamoto game that's never made it to the United States (since Doki Doki Panic essentially turned into Super Mario Bros. 2). From this video, I can guess that it's either because of the potentially offensive religious iconography, or the fact that it's insane and might cause a stroke if you play it too long. The game is basically Bubble Bobble Gets Left Behind With Pac-Man, what with two tiny dragons navigating a maze filled with pellets, then using Bibles and crosses to shoot fire at demons. I'm sure this is one title Fox News could get behind.

The game was released on the Japanese Virtual Console Jan. 22, 2008, and there's no word on when if ever the title will get a VC release outside of that country, although the original Devil World was released in Europe. I might be judging the game a bit too harshly based on one video, but I'm not crying to get this title over here. Any Devil World faithful care to open my eyes?

It's really too bad, because the gameplay itself looks pretty enjoyable.

It was the religious iconography - Nintendo's policy didn't allow it.

It's interesting that anyone would find this offensive. In the West, we use Buddhas and Indian and African deity statues as mere decoration all the time, completely out of their religious context.

I suppose people only get offended when it's their religion.

Oh that game was so fun... of course i was like 6 or something...
That's weird... It had two player mode but if i remembered correctly it was turn base (first player 1 then player 2) weird...
If i can trust my memories correctly, in the European version, i believe it was some knights instead of these lizards. I had both japanese and european version but my nostalgic feelings are playing tricks on my mind.
The game was simple. You had to gooble all the balls (hmm...) to finish the game. Yea so it was like pacman... and instead off ghost it was demons and instead of big power up balls it's crosses or bibles... but the devil made it fun! when he pointed left, the screen went right and when he pointed right it went left etc... Go too far off the screen you die and the old 666 beast is happy! But after a few turns, you had to pick up four bibles to form some sort of puzzle to imprison li'devil here. (I think in the european release it was some sort of a temple...?)
Good times... good times...
Still, I rather dust off my old famicom then using the V.C but of course if any of you are interested and it's release in the U.S, feel free to get it and teach old goat head a lesson!

So it's okay if in a movie people ward off vampires with crosses, but it's offensive when cute little dragons attack monsters with them? Seriously, religion and logic don't mix.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
