Video: Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 2nd Season
The title's a mouthful, but the Tokimeki Memorial series continues with the Nintendo DS title Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 2nd Season. And it's coming out on Valentine's Day! How perfect! I continue to wonder whether or not an enterprising company will one day attempt to translate one of these for a US audience. With the popularity of the DS among the casual gaming crowd, why not a dating sim? I've got no clue what's going on in this trailer, aside from some cute boys gushing hearts out of their mouths. Looks like a wide range of boys to flirt with, too, from the dark and sexy to the borderline female. There's a moment where it looks like the boy is reacting to your rubbing his shoulders with the stylus, but it's all good clean fun, since he's wearing clothes. Is it wrong that I would actually like to play one of these games?

Personally, I've always wanted to play Tokimeki Memorial, and have been disappointed that all of the fan translations of the SNES and other versions never seem to pan out.
I do fully agree with you - I think giving some of these old dating sim games a shot in the states might be a good risk. If the Harvest Moon series (which includes some wooing of women, or guys in some of the others) are popular, there's a shot that some of the more popular dating sims from Japan might be worth a shot.
So far, though, the only dating sims we've had brought to the states - Sprung and Westbook High - have been rather sub-par. Even Thousand Arms, with its RPG meets Dating Sim could have been good - if the rest of the game had been any good.
Sadly, the only ones I've heard that do well in the states are the hentai games - and I don't think my wife would understand my "research" ;).
