Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney 4 Interview

Apollo-justice-english-cover.jpg

Siliconera has a short interview with Colin Faris, Capcom's product marketing manager on the Ace Attorney series, talking about some of the changes for the series but also what long time players might find familiar. Although most of the main cast is completely new, and the series jumps seven years into the future, players of the first Phoenix Wright for the DS might remember a fifth case that introduced junior detective Ema Skye with her investigative tools that let you take advantage of some of the different functions of the DS. According the Faris, Skye is back, as are her tools.

As the Ace Attorney universe of characters grow, we wanted to make sure some of the old favorites still popped up from time to time. Ema is a bit more grown up now and even more integral to the story. ... [W]ithout giving too much away, Ema Skye helps you with all your forensic analysis of various pieces of evidence. Imagine her as the CSI of the Ace Attorney world.

Additionally, without the help of a spirit medium, new protagonist Apollo Justice has a slightly different method of gauging when a witness is hiding something:

Apollo has the unique ability to recognize nervous habits in his opponents. By reading their body language, he can determine whether they are lying or not. This skill serves him very well when cross examining in court.

For the future, Faris is mum about specific plans for the series, saying only that a sequel is in development and that Capcom has some "neat new ideas for it." He denies that the games will get a Wii entry any time soon (although I'd guess decent or lousy sales for the Harvey Birdman game might tip the scales in one direction or another). I'm currently finishing up cases in Trials and Tribulations, the last game in the series, and am really looking forward to this one, due in stores February 19th. Sure, I'll miss Maya, Gumshoe, Judge Beardo, and the rest, but I think the added realism of having a stage magician in the courtroom will really pull me into the game.

I love the series but they really need to put some cool new gameplay features in there to make it fresh again.
