CompUSA Final Closings Bring 40% Off

compusa40off.jpg

Truth be told, I love to shop for video games almost as much as playing them. It could be the thrill of the hunt or it could be breaking the shrink wrap and inhaling the scent of fresh ink from the instruction manual. Whatever the reason for my compulsion, it led me to walk out of CompUSA with four new games -- even after getting Professor Layton and Lost Odyssey this week -- all thanks to their final store closing sale.

If you have any CompUSA locations that are still open (they won't be for long), be sure to get over there this morning. As of this writing, nearly everything in the store is 40% off, but specifically I found some great gaming deals there. From my experience in the Houston store, there were plenty of Xbox 360, Xbox, PS2, PSP and PS3 games, as well as some Wii and DS titles. Available accessories were Xbox 360 battery packs, Wii points, Halo 3 wireless headsets. It may smell like leftovers, but these leftovers I don't mind picking through.

So after two trips and a lot of guilt-ridden internal dialogue, I settled in at home with brand new copies of Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, Def Jam's Icon, Project Sylpheed, and Ulimate Mortal Kombat for $30, $16, $15 and $18 respectively. At this particular location, there were easily 150+ titles available in their selection, but they were going fast!

If you're fortunate enough to have access to a CompUSA that is still open, drop by and see what bargains you can find. If you find a deal that's worthwhile, try to peel yourself away from your new game long enough to sound off in our comments and let us know what you scored!

Experience has taught me that buying things simply because they're cheap and not because I genuinely wanted them beforehand does not lead to personal satisfaction. That's not to say that getting a great deal on something you really want is a bad thing at all, but crap is still crap whether it's $5 or $50.

i checked out my comp usa in CT, and there were no games left at all. Just a few comp games, nothing worth anything. There were a few good nicknacks left though, but i didn't buy anything.

Too bad they didn't have any worthwhile PS3 discounts. I was planning on getting the 10% mac discount for a 24" imac, but they were all sold out. Even the xbox stuff was slim pickings.

I don't know, I was pretty satisfied playing through Ultimate Mortal Kombat last night. It also includes a decently entertaining Puzzle Kombat as well. Wifi support is always a big plus.

I'm generally pretty thrifty. There are many games that I won't spend $60 on, but maybe I wouldn't mind picking them up at $30 or $20.

Like Lego Star Wars, specifically. My partner and I have been looking forward to playing through the co-op since it came out, but we had been waiting for the price to drop.

While I love a good bargain, I tend to agree with Keith on this one. I've been burned too many times picking up something that's "too cheap to pass up" only to realize the game just wasn't that great, and "passing it up" could have meant $30 in my pocket towards a game that's actually worth full price.

Good luck to the sale shoppers though!
