Devil May Cry 4 On Xbox 360 Outsells PS3 Version 2 To 1 In UK

Capcom's decision to make Devil May Cry 4 multi-platform was not only a solid decision, but a profitable one as well. The title was originally slated just for PS3, then became multi-platform when the 360 version was announced. Kikizo reports that the 360 version is outselling the PS3 version almost 2:1 in the UK, which accounts for 61% of the overall sales.
More studios are seeing the profitability of developing cross-platform, which is a great service to gamers. The Devil May Cry series had appeared exclusively on Sony's systems in the past, but now the market is much different than their PS2 dominated generation. DMC4 is a great test case for multi-platform release study. The games perform almost exactly the same, and they were released on the same day, yet still the 360 sold more copies. Was it because of the half-an-hour install on the PS3 version, or the install base of the 360? The 360 version is about $10 cheaper in the UK than the PS3 version, so that probably persuaded some who own both systems to go 360 over PS3. We will keep an eye on the sales this side of the soup, considering they both go for the same price over here. It will be interesting to see how it fared here, the conditions are a bit different in the States.

You left out the fact that the PS3 version is £10 more, this coupled with a larger 360 install base could be reason for the lower PS3 sales. I don't think the 20 minute install would have bothered people with both consoles enough to get 360 version exclusively.
I would be surprised if current trends continue as the PS3 continues to go from strength to strength and it begins to outsell the 360 we will be seeing games traditionally associated with it sell more on the PS3.
Actually, 61% to 39% sales is 1.5:1, so "outsells PS3 version 2 to 1 in UK" isn't technically accurate... and sounds a little bit like you're reporting marketing numbers more than actual numbers.
Sorry, I'm a gaymathdork too.
