Download PS2 Games On Your PS3?

I don't have my new issue of EGM quite yet, but according to Kotaku Australia, PlayStation Network director Eric Lempell gives an interview in which he says that backwards compatibility might not be totally out of the picture for the PS3. With Sony phasing out the backwards compatibility of the PS3 with each successive model, some gamers might be annoyed that they have to drag their PS2s back out of the closet to play those games (if they in fact still own the console).
But when asked about the possibility of PS2 games joining PS1 titles in the PlayStation Store, Lempell said, "We haven't talked about that yet, but there are possibilities through technology and software emulation to make that possible." Hm. Looks like somebody noticed those Xbox Originals that Microsoft made available over their Xbox LIVE Marketplace... Still, I wonder how those are doing, compared to the Arcade games. Is downloading the wave of the future? Or would you rather be able to play that game you picked up in the bargain bin for a few dollars? $12 versus $5? I know which I'd pick.

This is exactly why I hate the 40Gig castrated PS3.
You're completely limited in the number of these previous games plus demos and trailers and saves that you can have.
I hope somewhere along the way they'll release a new model that actually has memorycard slots.
