Remote Play On PSP Experience

The Remote Play connectivity of the PSP and PS3 has been around for some time, but it seemed like a complicated process to get working. So I shied away from it for a while. I had done a few of the steps here and there to get myself setup, but never really went all the way. Or at least, that's what I thought.
During my lunch break, I turned on my PSP and went on the XMB to [Network] then [Remote Play], when I logged in, I was able to turn on my PS3 and hop on the PlayStation Store to download the Bionic Commando Rearmed trailer. I managed to send a message to one of our readers, thetownhalo, who happened to be on at the time. Then I listened to Bob Dylan's Desolation Row under my [Music] section, and flipped through the different music visualization programs. From there I went to the [Movies] tab and watched some .divx files, which came in beautifully. The audio and video were nice and clear.
Launching the web browser was a surprising experience. I managed to go to some of my favorite sites, but there was some serious lag issues with navigating the pages. Finally I went to my [Games] tab and played PixelJunk Monsters and Wild Arms, which were both living on my PS3 hard drive.
My only serious complaint was the lag in navigation. The voodoo magic behind the way the video signal is streaming to your PSP over the network, then your button presses are sent back through the network to the PS3 is really wild. With all of this data flying back and forth, I was expecting a bit of lag. It was really difficult to enter text through the interface because I had to really slow down to compensate for the lag. Other than that, it was an enlightening experience.
It was a great moment when I actually got connected, I felt like I had my PS3 in the palm of my hand. The ability to access the Store remotely is really fantastic. You can queue up downloads and have them sitting on your hard drive waiting for you when you get home. Also, accessing all of my music at home rocks. I have a tiny 512MB Memory Stick in my PSP, so I can't hold any music on it. So if you set up a music server with your computer, you could access all of that music through your PSP on the go.
If you have both machines, I would recommend connecting the two and checking out the Remote Play feature. For now, check the rather skimpy Online Manual for Remote Play. Hold tight though, I will be posting a How To in the near future with a step-by-step process to ease the pain a bit.

It's funny that you did this because I did the same thing today. Of course I was hoping to be able to do more than what I could (I can't play psp demos off the ps3 without putting it on my tiny card).
Otherwise it was cool to have everything on the go. Might come in hand in May for me.
I love remote play. It's great to pop games like Final Fantasy VIII into my PS3 and play them while I'm at work (on my break, of course, hehe).
I was also trying to get this going today while doing laundry and cleaning house. I was having wireless network issues but I'll have to sit down with it and get it going soon enough.
I can play ps1 game discs on my psp using this? I so have to try this all out.... Is there any lag?
There is some lag, yes. I wouldn't recommend it for games that require reflexes. There are ways to compensate (lower the PQ, for example)
It works great for things like turn-based RPGs though. :D
