Overlooked: MySims

You know, all of us here in the castle love videogames. A lot. Sometimes to a frightening degree, but the less said about that night, the better... Anyhoo, I thought it might be a good thing for us to share some of those games that we loved that kind of flew under the radar. Not so much a formal review, but just games you might have missed. And to start with, I'd like to tell you about a wonderfully addictive game I got from the bf for Christmas: MySims.

Exclusively on the Wii, MySims looks like the love child of The Sims and Animal Crossing. And while its cuteness levels shoot off the charts at times, and it is about doing chores for your ungrateful townspeople, there's really no socializing going on. Basically, you move to a run-down town and have to build it up. You invite people to move back, build them a house, and start building them furniture to go in it. You collect "essences" from various locations around town, and these are used as paint or decorations. Everyone has their own requirements, and to make your town awesome, you have to match them. It's not that hard. Basically, don't give the goth boy a pink couch. He won't like it.

It's basically a building simulation, and while that doesn't sound like fun, it kind of is. It also gets a little tricky at the end when you have to somehow cram 50 essences into a chair that's normally made up of about 10 blocks. There's lots of areas to explore around town, and lots of tasks to complete. It only really becomes a chore when someone wants something with a lot of essences you don't have and you have to go collect them. Amateur designers will have a field day with the options. You can mix and match your outfits and look from various options, and the customization of the furniture you build is limited only by your imagination. I'll admit that MySims might not be for everybody, but it's definitely worth checking out if you're the creative type (and don't mind excessive cuteness)!

Sad to hear about the loading times though. :/

Yeah, the loading times are a little annoying. But mostly in the beginning where you have to skip through about 3 or 4 intros and logos before you can even load your game.

The excessive cuteness also leads to some interesting gender ambiguity. It's particularly fun to cross-dress or go butch. So cute :).

It's not exclusive for the Wii, it's on the DS too. And might I add that it's one of the worst games I've played on the DS. Boring, boring, boring. It doesn't have any of the building that the wii one had, you just did the same tasks of talking day after day after day...
