Them's Fightin' Words, Microsoft

In an interview with Wired.com's Game|Life, Microsoft Game Studios corporate vice president Shane Kim talked about making the Xbox 360 huge in 2008, and a big focus for making that happen is going to be Grand Theft Auto IV. Kim insists that with the downloadable content, the 360 version will be the ultimate GTAIV experience. At least he recognizes that making people believe that is going to be an uphill battle.

Even though we've managed to do a good job in terms of getting the game day and date, people still, if you just let things roll, will associate Grand Theft Auto as a PlayStation franchise. Which means that we have to work really hard to make people understand that no, it's not, and that you'll actually get a greater experience on Xbox 360.

He also talks about trying to make successful casual games, avoids setting a release date for Too Human, defends turning Halo into a real-time strategy game, promises that Alan Wake truly exists and will come out, and explains why the 360 has the best attach rate of the current generation consoles.

It's big talk, but can Microsoft back it up in 2008? Personally, I think they're in a pretty good place right now. But with games like Halo, Crackdown and Mass Effect making them a success with the hardcore gamer crowd, should they really be trying to horn in the Wii's casual gaming market? I'd rather see them focus on their strengths instead of diversifying.

As someone from Rockstar said, Microsoft paid for an exclusivity in time only. And all the episodic content is already prepared to be in a future Platinum edition (or "The Best" edition, as you prefer ^^) of the game on PS3. It's just a matter of time ^^.

Actually, Halo was originally slated as a RTS game for the Mac, then a FPS game (also for the Mac) before Microsoft bought Bungie and made the game an Xbox franchise.
