Uru Live Gets The Axe

In 2006, GameTap revived Myst Online: Uru Live by putting it on its online service for all to play. It even featured regularly updated episodic content. Sadly, it was not to last. Today, notice was given to the residents of Uru that their age will end in 60 days. The primary reason, as is all too common with many a good thing, is its economic viability. Here's what GameTap VP of Content and Creative Director Ricardo Sanchez had to say:
"The decision was a very difficult one and was made for business reasons rather than due to any issues regarding the design and vision of the amazing world that Cyan Worlds and Rand Miller have brought to us," said Sanchez. "Despite the great Myst Online experience coming to a close, Cyan is still a very valued partner of GameTap, we are on excellent terms, and we look forward to continuing our relationship in the future."
Sanchez went on to note that the game's website, MystOnline.com, will remain online for fans. I know people who have played the game really enjoyed it. It's a bit disappointing that I never got around to trying my hand at it, but then then again, I don't have a GameTap membership anyways. Are you going to miss Uru or will you just let it slip quietly into the night?

Fuck ... fuck ... and more fuck ... I LOVED URU Live and now all I have left is Second Life ... I'm just shocked, ... shocked ...
I have been following Uru since very early in its developement cycle (long before it even had a name), meaning that I've been an Uru fan for the better part of this decade.
I was heartbroken once before when it first died and I'm heartbroken again. I made lots of good friends in Uru and know many couples who got together and eventually married after meeting there. It was a special game, unique and beatiful. I will miss it.
The gaming world is a poorer place without it.
