Video: Gears Of War Will Have Amazing Water
Epic Games did a presentation at GDC on the improvements to the Unreal Engine they've recently made, and the water looks freaking fantastic. If they are indeed putting this into Gears of War 2 then I am eagerly awaiting a chance to play it. Also, the meat cube creeps me out a bit, despite being technically amazing in terms of an effect. Some seriously impressive graphics in this clip.

Any of the other improvements mentioned in the video kick the water physics' butt, seriously. Have you seen water lately?!
I think the occlusion might be one of the biggest improvements, since it's the most visible and believable one - though it's hard to tell with those low-res statics. Anything physics-based won't really impress me until it looks *real* - which probably won't happen for awhile.
What I'm really psyched about tho are the destructible environments. Sure, it's gonna suck in Gears when you just want to pulverise a wall to continue on your path, but there's some kind of indestructible steel mesh preventing you from getting through. Gears is linear after all. But I can totally imagine a game where there are multiple paths to your target leaving you free to actually use corridors and walls or blast through walls. I smell a license for Rhino!
I usually don't get my rocks off from tech demo type things, but this did it for me. I can't wait for November.
Also, Tek Guy, you've just supplied my new favorite quote for the weekend: "Have you seen water lately?!"
I hope they don't ruin GOW2 by making you fight large armies of hundreds of locusts without a plot reason. Otherwise the locust hord in GOW2 is going to feel like a different locust hord to the one in the first game.
