Video: Nippon No Asoko De - Japanese Trailer
Nippon No Asoko De is so bizarre, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to put this up on the site. I can't quite figure out what you do in the game. It looks like you travel around the world in a spaceship with your little alien buddies and observe human life, or alter it in some way. Maybe there it is a collectionist type of game where you have to observe different parts of the world. I'm not sure, but it's cute as all get out. The graphics have the charm of Katamari Damacy and Under the Sun. Adorable. My guess is, this won't be coming anywhere near the states.

Do you mean, "Under the Skin" for PS2? The game was some great fun. Weird, but fun.
According to the official site, it's a discovery game where you basically find out about the geography, local quirks and trivia of Japan. I take it it has a lot of minigames, but the site isn't too clear on that yet. You get quests, like collecting rare animals, or finding out about local dialects etc. You get clues and have to go "hunting" for things using the map.
What's interesting, it also seems to function as a travel guide. The "dekake" ("going out") function uses the wireless function of the PSP to give you tips for travel and discovery wherever you are *physically* at in Japan at a given time. Sounds like fun. Too bad it isn't out for the Nintendo DS, or I would buy it for my next trip to Japan.
Oh, and the character is called "Navi-chu".
