Video: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Footage
Giddy up fanboys, have I got a treat for you. Two brand spankin' new videos from GDC for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed from none other than LucasArts. They have pulled out all of the stops with this upcoming game. The trailer on this page gives you a brief glimpse into the world, but the second one after the break showcases some amazing lightsaber gameplay. In it, he throws his lightsaber into a row of trees, and you can see the models break apart realistically. The combat looks incredibly solid from the force powers to way the enemies react to being lifted off of the ground. They grasp at whatever is closest to them and hold on for dear life. Impressive.

I am seriously looking forward to this game. It looks incredibly fun, and I'm always up for some cool lightsaber play.
And if that weren't enough, the whole "grasping on to things" bit led to a great gay moment in Penny Arcade history:

I'm really not into SW (the first three movie were fun, but that's all) as a franchise and all, but this game looks really beautiful and the gameplay looks great too.
I wonder what era this plays in - soldiers dumb enough to try and kick a jedi/sith/we in the shin deserve to be flung about like this.
Also, sorry to break it to you guys (teehee, watch for the hidden pun), but the enivronments won't be breakable (see what I did there) as displayed in the video. Like everything else, they are modeled shapes out of polygons, and so far, there is no engine that can properly recalculate new polygons on the fly, which means if it breaks, it was already pre-rendered in parts (far cry's trees demonstrate that pretty well, no matter where the explosion is, they always break in the same place). If Lucasarts somehow overcame this limitation of the engine, they probably would've made that a more integral part of the trailer.

These two videos aren't really trailers, they're just clips from gameplay, if you look on the website for the game they have videos explaining exactly how they have overcome that problem.
ic, they're calling it DMM. Man, that stuff is *sweet*!
I can still win though. Here's my bonus round: Did they realize light sabers don't have a blunt edge? In fact, they are the least blunt of all scifi weapons ever and thus should not be wielded in the manner portrayed by the protagonist of this video. Unless he wants to accidentally cut off one of his legs while running around - which, in turn would probably look and feel great thanks to DMM...
This does look fantabulous, and I can imagine spending hours just flinging stuff about and laughing at the sky-waltzing Stormtroopers.
We're gonna have to make our own fun... cause a game this cool looking is gonna take about five hours to complete.
