White Engine Gets A Makeover

Square-Enix made an announcement today about their White Engine, which was developed for Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII, is being renamed Crystal Tools and will be used for cross-platform support including the Xbox 360, PC, and the Wii. Taku Murata, the general manager of Square-Enix's research and development division, made the announcement at a GDC session today. This was a bit of a surprise since the White Engine had been synonymous with PS3 development.
Great news for gamers everywhere, the Square-Enix name can continue to spread their brand of polished RPGs to every current platform. Now let's wait to see how the Crystal Tools will look on the Wii. I have a feeling there are some surprises up their magical sleeves.

I wonder what they'll develop for the 360?? Hmmm.
Good news for the Wii, I hope they blow everyone away! I am so tired of the graphics whores saying shit about the Wii's lack of horse power. Yes I look at graphics, yes I am sometimes awed by them but graphics are way down on my list of criteria.
It probably means they're working on whatever the successor to FF Online is.
Using cross platform development tools is way better than releasing a game and then doing a hack job at porting it to another platform.
I agree Decom. The ports they do are all half assed when it comes to games. It's easyer to make a game for the easyer to develope system, then push it over the the other systems that can do more, but since it just just a port they don't bother beffing it up on the more powerful systems. I hope this will create a type of medium for all the systems while still keeping some of the systems unique advatages possible.
