Xbox 360 HD-DVD Player $79.99 At Amazon, Universal Price Drop Imminent?

It's sold out right now, but Amazon.com had the Xbox 360 HD-DVD player for $79.99. Other sites still have it at $109.99 (Fry's) and $119.99 (Best Buy). Though the price on Amazon has actually now increased (darn resellers), there existed a banner saying $79.99 is the "new low price" for the HD-DVD player. As CheapyD points out, this likely wouldn't be on there if it was not going to be permanent.
So, if this should become a permanent price drop, are you going to buy in?
Update: The price drop is indeed official (thanks, hyppolytus). Though not for $79.99, you can still pick it up for $129.99.

that's a tad on the depressing side... thank god for having a ps3, too.
Considering the imminent demise of HD-DVD...buying this add-on at ANY price would be a foolish move.
I already unloaded mine on E-bay.
Universal has plans to support Blu-Ray....so does Paramount.
Best Buy is phasing out HD-DVD from it's shelves....
I guess the HD-DVD add on for Xbox 360 might be useful if you need an up converting conventional DVD player for your HDTV.

Nope. Regular 360 upscales. HDMI is the x factor. At least it outputs 1080; it may not be quite what upscaling usually consists of, but DVD is close enough to pixel-exact 480p that there wouldn't be a detectable difference, and certainly not $80 worth.
My only interest in the 360 add-on is that with the proper software, I could use it to convert my eight HD DVDs (five of which were freebs) to something playable through the PS3.
Seriously, how are 5 HD movies for 80 bucks a bad deal?? - and you get the drive for free! A drive that already plays 300+ movies, more than any of us is ever going to own. And as soon as combo drives sell for any kind of a decent price, I'll be enjoying a few of the movies I only had on DVD up until then - or not waste my time and money on optical media any more and just download what I want to watch.
So stop whining. So says the governator.
I really don't fault anyone for buying this, it's basically free with the free movies, but... there's very little that makes me want to buy a player for a dead/dying format. Free is great, but free crap is still free crap, and is just going to be clutter in the future.
I already own more than 300 movies on regular DVD, and depending on how long Blu-Ray is around I'll probably have a similar number of movies on that format as well.
HD-DVD is dead, face it.
