Activision Unleashes Modern Metal

Get out your leather and temporary tattoos, because today Activision released three new downloadable songs for Guitar Hero III. The "Modern Metal" pack lets players jam to master recordings of Deftones' "Hole In The Earth," Avenged Sevenfold's "Almost Easy" and Thrice's "The Arsonist." The pack is available now on Xbox LIVE Marketplace and the PlayStation Store. Not being a metalhead, though, I've never heard of any of these songs.
On the other hand, I'm intrigued by the announcement that a special free track pack from Celtic punk band Dropkick Murphys will be available in mid-March, in time for St. Patrick's Day. The pack includes three tracks off their sixth album: "Famous for Nothing," "(F)lannigan's Ball" and "Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ya." It's also available for download for both the 360 and the PS3.
I really enjoy the sporadic free downloads for GHIII, like the Halo theme and the recent Aerosmith track, and I wonder when Rock Band will follow suit. It's a great way to promote bands, because I think nearly everyone will download a free song to play, even if it's just to boost their score. Plus, I'm a cheapskate!

Someday, we might get downloadable content on the Wii. But I've stopped holding my breath. Or, y'know, caring.
OMG!!!! Thrice!!!!!!!!!! too bad i have GH3 for the wii.....
