Gamestop Reneges On Haze Promise

You may remember a story that Asterick covered a short while back on the strange Gamestop/Ubisoft promotion guaranteeing the new Playstation3 FPS Haze as being mega-awesome, or the buyer could return the title to the store, within one week, for their money back (in the form of store credit).
Well, apparently this was all too good to be true:
MTV was told by Ubisoft that "there had been a miscommunication between the publisher's Canadian arm and the EB Games retail chain in Canada." Furthermore, the issue has been rectified some time in the last week and the promotion has been cancelled. I was unable to get further details on how this miscommunication happened.
The idea of this being just a mere miscommunication strikes me as odd. Miscommunications are generally on a small scale, and rectified by an acceptance of responsibility. But, in this instance, it is a miscommunication between two multi-million dollar corporations.
As the internet rides this story out, it seems strange that Gamestop has yet to remove the promotional flier from their site. Also, because the issue was, "Rectified over the course of last week," why is it that Ubisoft has not confronted this through their own website?

Sounds like someone at Gamestop actually played it.
You know what would be awesome? All the people who try to follow through on this promo. Why? Because they will all hate Gamestop...with a vengeance. I personally am counting down until that company goes bankrupt!!
