Greenpeace: Nintendo Is Killing Our Planet

Jinkies! According to Greenpeace, Nintendo is at the very bottom of the list of eco-friendly tech manufacturers, . On a scale of 1 to 10, Sony was the leading videogame manufacturer with a 7.3, and Microsoft fell just below the median with a 4.7. But Nintendo scored only .3 out of 10. No, that's not a typo. It wasn't a three, but a point-three. Greenpeace's Guide to Greener Electronics ranks companies in categories like precautionary principle, timeline for PVC phaseout, and amounts recycled. The only category where Nintendo wasn't at the bottom of the barrel was in chemicals management, where it didn't score a "bad," but only "partially bad." Um, good for them?
Nintendo was apparently "surprised" to learn they'd scored so terribly low, insisting they took "great care to comply with all relevant regulations on avoiding the use of dangerous materials, recycling, etc." Well, obviously they're doing something horribly wrong. I mean, a .3? That's kind of insane. What in the world could they be doing that would rank them so far below every other electronics manufacturer? You'd think a company with such a family-friendly image would go out of their way to be environmentally aware. Guess not!
Nintendo Fails Greenpeace Test Again [Wired.com]

Eh, I don't know how much trust I'd put in this. Greenpeace isn't exactly the most objective and trustworthy organization when it comes to information. I find it odd that Greenpeace has only been blasting Nintendo after Wii became so popular.
In before the inevitable American hating on Greenpeace!
Too much 4chan I admit, but the above still applies. When this happened last time, fanboys were ranting against Greenpeace for pages.
Mudd, your conspiracy theory is flawed, since all the other companies are only doing marginally better.
Greenpeace seem to be seen as extremists in the US, which says a lot more about the US than it does anything else. Hopefully this will get Nintendo to stop being idiots and actually show that they're doing anything to stop environmental decay. It's an incredibly important issue, and one that most companies are putting on a backburner for profit's sake. Nintendo are just showing that they're one of the worst.
I remember reading something like this months ago, that Nintendo was ranked worst by Greenpeace, but I read that it was due to Nintendo not releasing information about their practices, so they had to assume the worst. Not sure if that's the case here, though.
Yah this is old news, and Nintendo's score was so low due to the fact Nintendo gave them NO information.
Although they apparently had it on their corporate site anyway.
Them again, thought we proved that they were idiots with that one video.

This one to be exact, and Rosethornn, no, Greenpeace are full of idiots, I think even a top person left because of what they were doing.
well, nintendo are the ones who are selling the most, so yeah, they use more bad stuff for the planet.....
This news is quite old and it's already been pointed out by previous posters, Nintendo isn't actually doing that kind of harm to the environment. What happened is that Nintendo did not want to release their business practices to Green Peace so they gave them that score to "intimidate" them. Just sleazy hardball tactics from Green Peace.
Rosethornn, I cite previous posters to rest my case. Greenpeace, in the absence of information, automatically assumes the worst, which is pretty nutty. At least to me as an American, with our oh-so-crazy "guilty into proven innocent" way of thinking.
They can allways attack them with firebombs, it's a tactic that's worked for the environmental nutcases for decades.
How you boil down entire companies activities is fairly arbitrary. A million different factoirs affect it from what they make, what chemicals they use, what these do (as opposed to the view that all chemicals are always bad) to how much of it gets resold, the average life of products and so on.
I would much rather trust companies with my future than I would trust Greenpeace. Nuke the Whales!
Trusting companies? That's a good one. Have fun in the next Triangle Factory Fire!
Don't 'trust' anyone -- examine their claims and see who's telling the truth. These knee-jerk reactions against Greenpeace are ridiculous! For all I know Greenpeace is completely full of it on this one, but I'm not instantly jumping in and deciding a priori that either Nintendo *or* Greenpeace is in the wrong. If someone wants to provide some links to back up their claims about Nintendo's non-disclosure that'd be great, although I'd then ask if Nintendo is purposefully hiding the information, and if so, why. But without more information it would be stupid to come to a premature conclusion.
ah Greenpeace, it's so cute how you think you're still relevant!
Nintendo is not hiding the information, they have all their enviromental practices listed on their web site. Check it out here:
http://www.nintendo.com/corp/faq.jsp#environment
So as you can see, Nintendo does do it's part in helping the environment, as all companies should.
Green Peace is mad because Nintendo would not fill out their forms despite the fact that Nintendo has their practices clearly posted on their site. It's bully tactics by Green "Peace", plain and simple.
