Imagine You're A Rock Star

Okay, so Guitar Hero On Tour for the DS is kind of intriguing. The idea of portable Guitar Hero is cool. But what about Rock Band? What if you want to play another instrument? Well, until Harmonix figures out a way to condense the awesomeness that is Rock Band onto a teeny-tiny little DS cart, the only game in town would seem to be Ubisoft's recently-announced Imagine Rock Star.

You know the Imagine series, right? Imagine Figure Skater, Imagine Fashion Designer, Imagine Animal Doctor, Imagine Master Chef and Imagine Babyz were just the beginning. Well, Imagine Rock Star, due out in June 2008, will let girls (and boys, of course) form their dream band, climb the charts and become rock gods (or goddesses).

"Ubisoft has established itself as the leading publisher for girls and we are extremely pleased with the success of the first series of Imagine games," said Tony Key, senior vice president of marketing and sales at Ubisoft. "By allowing them to play, create and dream of the possibilities, Imagine Rock Star strengthens Ubisoft's position in this category and provides more DS options for young girl gamers."

There are four instruments available: drums, guitar, bass and piano, each with its own specific DS touch screen control. You can also customize the appearance of your rocker and play wirelessly with up to four friends. There's no mention of a single player game, but I'd assume that's an option for those of us with no friends. I appreciate what Ubisoft is doing with this series to get girls into gaming, but I'm wondering what kind of a song selection Imagine Rock Star is going to have. There's no word yet, but I'm assuming Hannah Montana and High School Musical-type stuff. Sigh. Could we at least have some Go-Go's? Or even Josie & The Pussycats?
