Just In: 'Still Alive' DLC For Rock Band: Free, Tomorrow!

Portal fans and meme infectees rejoice! GLaDOS swan song and gamer superhit "Still Alive" is about to rock your copy of Rock Band.
Songwriter Jonathan Coulton's groovy, hilarious tune makes its way to XBLA tomorrow, and to the PS3 on April 17, when the newly improved Playstation Store debuts.
Sorry, PS3 Rock Banders, you'll have to wait two weeks for your slice of GLaDOS - that PSN update usually rolls out late on Thursday, and this Thursday is the first of two with no new titles while the Sony imps rig up the new storefront.
But whether you're not buying it on the PS3 or not buying it on the Xbox 360, we can all enjoy one thing: it's freaking free!
Press release after the jump.
ROCK BAND Media Alert
ROCK BAND(tm) TO FEATURE FREE DOWNLOAD OF
"STILL ALIVE" FROM VALVE'S PORTAL(tm)
This is a triumph ... Harmonix Music Systems and MTV Games have teamed
up with Valve to bring the song "Still Alive", released as part of The
Orange Box collection of games on PC, 360 and Playstation 3, into the
Rock Band library. And, as icing on the cake, the track will be
available as a FREE download on April 1 for the Xbox 360 video game and
entertainment system from Microsoft, and April 17 for the
PLAYSTATION(r)3 computer entertainment system.
Written by Jonathan Coulton and originally performed over the end
credits of Portal, the experimental single-player game in The Orange
Box, "Still Alive" found its way into the heads and hearts of gamers and
quickly became a cult classic.
"While the cake may be a lie, the free download of "Still Alive" is
confirmed truth," said Greg LoPiccolo, VP of product development at
Harmonix. "'Still Alive' is an awesome song that brings together great
gaming and great music. We've teamed up with Valve to deliver a free
download of "Still Alive" as a "thank you" to our fans for their
incredible support."
"Rock Band has lit the industry on fire by opening a new market for
cooperative musical gaming," said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at
Valve. "We're delighted Harmonix has selected the track for inclusion in
the growing library of tracks available for this phenomenal title."
With the addition of "Still Alive" to the Rock Band library, there are
now more than 70 tracks available for download in addition to the 58
tracks in the original game. To date, gamers have purchased more than 6
million downloadable songs for Rock Band since its launch on November
20, 2007.
Downloadable content for the Xbox 360 will be available via Xbox LIVE(r)
Marketplace using Microsoft Points and is downloaded directly to the
Xbox 360 hard drive. Downloadable content for the PLAYSTATION 3
system's version of Rock Band will be available on the
PLAYSTATION(r)Store through the free PLAYSTATION(r)Network and is
downloaded directly to PLAYSTATION 3 system's built in hard drive.

you know... i've never played portal... yet all this talk about that song makes me more and more interested in the game... If the song's all right to play, i'll give portal a try.
Sorry whats getting released? I got distracted by.............I feel like cake.......
@ The_french_guy: The song contains some story spoilers. Not saying that it'll ruin the game, but I still think that Portal is one of those things where the less you know about it before going in, the more enjoyable it will be. At $20 (on PC), Portal isn't too much of a blind leap, but is really worth it.
Also, someone cut me off a piece of *that* cake.
Beeeeeef caaaaaake... Wait, there's a story attached to this picture? Sorry.
This is even better than the rumored Offspring pack... Sadly I can't play this until Wednesday because I'll be in NYC tomorrow after working 4 hours X_X
Oh man, this is one shepperd's pie i wouldn't mind eating!
Oh Tiny, do you think they heard me when I complained about the lack of free songs on Rock Band? I mean, if the Halo song was free for Guitar Hero, why shouldn't the Portal song be free for Rock Band? Yay! (Now if they'd only get around to splitting it up into a separate $20 game for the 360, I could actually get around to playing it...)
does it bother anyone else that tomorrow is april first?
@ m0taku: First thing that came to my mind too. Such negative nancys
umm...yes now i need cake too and some toilet paper
The song is already up for download through the in game music store. This isn't a silly April Fools trick.
Sorry PS3 users, until Sony gets their store up and going you are going to be out of luck.
The beefcake is a lie.
Well someone had to say it.
