Rumor: Elebits 2 On DS This Year

An entry for Elebits 2 on the DS has appeared in Gamefly's database, with a release date of August 30th this year. While the date is probably a best guess, the rental service isn't known for just adding games as a whim or because of someone's wishful thinking. Chances are Konami has let information about the sequel's existence slip out to retailers before it hits the public.
The original game hit the Wii's launch window at the tail end of 2006. It didn't turn the gaming world on its ear, but it managed to get the Wii controls at least somewhat right when many companies were getting it so, so wrong. Hopefully the Elebits 2 team will handle the DS control scheme with equal aplomb.
Obviously details are scant, but personally, I hope it's not more of the same, only smaller. Tapping up all those tiny little guys could be a chore, and I don't think tossing around cars and mailboxes will have the same effect on the small screens. I'd like to see the game go in an all new direction - maybe adventure, real time strategy, or even survival horror - rather than just churning out another handheld shooter, even one with a nifty physics engine. Ultimately, as long as they keep the theme of neglected children left alone with dangerous science experiments, I'll be happy.

It always bothered me that the boy was talking into a hot dog instead of an acual phone.
