Saints Row 2 May Not Be That Great

Volition's Greg Donovan, producer of Saint's Row 2 spoke at the game's unveiling, and his words seem to be the result of either extremel honesty or flat-out damage control:
"It won't be bug free. I don't think any game is. But part of what we did was to start development early on. Our development schedule is all about getting the gameplay in and even though this (version of the game shown to press) is pre-alpha, we're all about iterating the gameplay now."
"We have a full QA team on it, we've been able to undergo a massive engine overhaul."
Did they not have a full QA team on the original? Because that would explain some things. I'd be happy to think that Donovan's just being forthright, but experience suggests otherwise. However, Donovan was also seemingly forthright on other matters - namely that the Xbox 360 is the lead platform for the game, even though he assured us that there wouldn't be any significant differences between the two versions. So...who knows?
Saints Row 2 'won't be bug free' admits dev [Videogamer]

Wow. As someone who works in an industry where creative output is our bread and butter, anyone who announces before launch that a product "won't be bug-free" would get their balls handed to them. And anyone who says "the game won't be bug-free... I don't think any game is" would have his balls handed to him, and then fired.
I don't mind a texture problem, a vertex that is off the model and makes it look like their a nail through the head, or even no deflectors on the enviroment where the model just flies through when he dies (because the rag doll needs a deflector on it's surface it's falling on). These are all bugs I have seen in games that came out LAST MONTH.
But I don't discourage people from playing a game, or even mention these. These are little things that happen..... the only time I would say a bug is there if it prevents you from actually finishing a level.
I can only imagine the worst bugs ever, like you can't see the cursor on the menu screen, it can't load up a map, there's a high pitch audio that hurts you ears, npc have no deflectors that they walk randomly into building while your in the middle of a cinematic, bosses can shoot through walls, I could go on and on and on and on about real bugs that happen in games.
He's just pointing out the obvious. Videogames are complicated, especially big open world sandbox games. They all have bugs.
Anyone who claims that his or her game will be bug free at release is a liar.
Why is everyone being so weird about this?
But if it spawns a jaunty musical number like the first game did, it will all still be worth it.
In case you missed it the first time around, see it here.
