THQ Brings It On With Wii Cheerleading Game

Well, it looks like those third parties are just as enthusiastic as Nintendo about that Wii Balance Board peripheral. I already told you about Namco Bandai's We Ski, and now THQ is joining in the fun with All Star Cheer Squad! No, seriously, a cheerleading game. How awesome is that? Well, at least I hope it'll be awesome.
"With the explosive growth of the girls gaming market in recent years due to the continued success of Wii and DS, our ongoing goal is to stay at the cutting edge of that success by bringing a brand new property for this segment to these popular systems," said Jim Huntley, director of global brand management, THQ. "We're thrilled to introduce All Star Cheer Squad to the industry as a triple-a title that will get players involved in the action of what it takes to be an all star as well as make up their own unique cheer routines."
Well, I really hope that they realize that it's not just girls who might be interested in this game, and the customizable characters allow for boys as well. I assume the DS would have rhythm-tapping gameplay like Elite Beat Agents, but the Wii will use the Wiimote and Nunchuck to simulate actual cheerleading moves. Fun! (Though I worry about the length of the cord connecting the two being an issue if you have to spread your arms out wide) And if you've got the Wii Balance Board, you can add that and get your whole body involved! The game's plot has you playing a cheerleader who learns new routines, joins a squad and works to become captain. But will you be as fierce as Torrance? Spirit Fingers!
I've included a full press release after the jump. (Is it wrong that I'm this interested in this game?)
