Wii Contamination Preventing Some Brawls

The years of waiting have finally come to an end. Super Smash Bros. Brawl is now available for your frenetic fighting pleasure. With many stores holding midnight launches last night, I have no doubt that many of those gamers spent their entire night awake, their eyes glued to their televisions with wavebird controllers in hand. That is, unless you were one of an unlucky few who experienced difficulties getting your Wii to read your SSBB disc.
From Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Brawl support page:
Super Smash Bros. Brawl utilizes a double-layer disc which has a large memory capacity. A very small percentage of Wii consoles may have trouble consistently reading data off this large capacity disc if there is some contamination on the lens of the disc drive. Nintendo has specialized cleaning equipment that can resolve this problem. (Please do NOT attempt to clean the lens yourself, as you may damage the system.)
I hope that none of you are affected by this hiccup. I have to say, discovering this problem after attending a midnight launch must be pretty disheartening. We don't have anyway of knowing how many people will be affected or exactly how the contamination could have happened. If you are one of the unfortunate people affected, be sure to let us know before heading over to Nintendo's support page to arrange for your Wii's return trip to Nintendo for repairs. If you're not affected, how much are you loving Brawl right now?

I'd think the heartburn alone of a midnight lunch would be pretty bad.
I'm glad my disc works, I've already had to send the Wii back twice. I am having a bit of a problem finding wi-fi players who aren't my friends, which is kind of pissing me off, but I'm sure it will pass soon. Besides that, I am in love with this game.
LOL Nice catch! I was in too big of a hurry to spend some alone time with my hubby this morning, apparently.
No problem, Tex. Me and the missus were late to church for the same reason - but we blamed it on daylight savings time ;).
That screenshot is a perfect example of why I wish Wario weren't in the game x.x

Our game froze up on us, and proceeded to unleash this high-pitched ring upon our ears. Just had to reset the system and it was all better. But eh, whatevs. Its beautiful and everything i hoped and dreamed.
My Little Brothers who live out of town just got the game on Sunday and thier wii will not read the disk... They where pritty upset. Now reading this, it looks like i have to send in the system for repairs. Thanks for the catch TexCub.
My brother got it yesterday and when he finally was able to test it hours later, he was greeted by a "Disc can't be read" screen.
Not only that, he can't really send it to be repaired 'cause we're in Mexico and he bought his Wii in the US... which also means that he'll have to pay to have it repaired somewhere here. Oh, but I'm not done yet, the only official Nintendo Stores are in the Federal District(Mexico City) and we live in the California border and I'm not sure if the expense would be worth it.
So... yeah, things are looking pretty crappy.
Isn't this really old news, dating back to when it was released in Japan?
Caused by excessive dust / smoking leading to particulate contamination dirtying the DVD lense.
...maybe spray air would help Adrael, but, erm, own risk and all...

I just bought my copy less than an hour ago, put it in, and it didn't run. My other games did. Smash Bros. didn't, sigh...
gonna exchange for another copy and cross my fingers.
