Wii Games Inciting Wimpy Violence

I love The Onion. This morning, I picked up this week's new issue as I was getting on the subway, and busted out laughing at the headline. It was a story about Barak Obama's campaign with the headline "Black Guy Asks Nation For Change." Then I saw the other front page story, and chuckled some more. It skirts the very edge of offensive at times, but I still thought it was a great satire of the issue of violence in videogames. According to reports, parents are outraged at the Wii for inspiring incidents of effeminate violence.
The Wii, now the most popular gaming system in the country, most recently came under fire last month, when 15-year-old Los Angeles student Brian Strickland, who reportedly plays Wii Sports tennis, was expelled for flicking his wrist back and forth at a fellow sophomore's head. And in January, 12-year-old Boulder, CO native Andrew Conner, a fan of the WarioWare: Smooth Moves game, was hospitalized after swinging his arm like an elephant trunk into members of the eighth-grade boys basketball team.
The APA is working with the Entertainment Software Rating Board to update its rating system to reflect the perceived influence of Wii on children's behavior. According to suggested guidelines, games that contain insipid language, vigorous paint scrubbing, and mild to moderate bell-ringing will be rated P for Pansy; those that include simulated sand-pouring and intense lily-pad racing will be rated NP for Namby-Pamby.

Wii Video Games Blamed For Rise In Effeminate Violence [The Onion]

Funny in theory but I'm actually a little saddened by homophobic it came off.
Sounds to me like media whining about quite normal behavior. Two high school students picking on eachother happen all the time and I know if I was waving my arm into a sports team (not just basketball), I knew I'd be asking to be hospitalized. I think that second reported case should either be marked up as either a common sense punishment or "survival of the half-brained" (as you only need half a brain to know that's just asking for trouble).
I didn't think it was homophobic in the least. I can think of few publications that are as favorable to gays as The Onion. It's one of the bright little spots of sanity in this crazy world. Didn't you see the video about the military not allowing gays because of how precious they are?
NR: It's all a joke. Look at the other articles at theonion.com.
