Given that you become the winning bidder, you too can assert that you triumphed over the Great-Grandpappy of Video Gaming, Nolen Bushnell, in what may well be the first Pong tournament.
For as fascinating as this trophy is, the background story is just as entertaining:
My mother worked for Atari from 1975 - 1979 as a tester and a change collector (driving to all the different arcades in the Bay Area collecting the change from the machines). This trophy was given to her by winning the company Pong Tournament in the first half of 1976 when Atari was still in a large warehouse in Los Gatos, CA. This is not too long before Atari moved to Milpitas in 1976. So the exact date should be around 1975-76.
Now, if only an equally prestigeous award for Yar's Revenge would show up.
