Can The Halo Movie Be Saved?

Things weren't looking very good for the big-budget Hollywood adaptation of Halo when Peter Jackson's development caved in and fell apart. But it looks like the movie could get back on the rails soon if Pirates of the Caribbean screenwriter Stuart Beattie has anything to say about it. Beattie has written scripts for Gears of War, Splinter Cell and Spy Hunter, and his G.I. Joe screenplay that got that project green-lit. Apparently he's now penned a non-commissioned script based off the novel Halo: Fall of Reach, that he's shopping around to studios.
I think it's great that Halo is still kicking around Hollywood, but I'm wary of how it'll be treated. With Jackson's name attached, I had hopes for a classy production that would be true to the source material. With anyone else? Not so sure.
At least it's not Ewe Boll, right?
