Cheaters "Break" Mario Kart Wii Online Experience

mario-kart_drawing.jpgA game's online multiplayer functionality is only as good as the community that uses it. Though it may have fantastic gameplay, if there's nothing but douches or people who take things way too seriously, then well, you've got a broken experience on your hands.

Mario Kart DS, though a fun game, had it's online portion totally raped by rouge players "snaking" (using powerslide boosts unfairly), being sore losers and disconnecting mid-way through games and general foul play. The fact that the WFC has no way of reporting players like on LIVE and the PSN made things much harder. And it seems that old habits die hard, even in the next generation...

Mario Kart DS's big Wii brother, despite only being less than a few weeks old in Japan and Europe, has already started to see a number of players break the game's Time Trial online leader-boards. How you ask? Apparently by completing the first lap of a course, turning around to face the finish line and quitting. If that didn't make any sense to you, then you're not alone, but it somehow works. The end result is a realistically impossible recorded time to gloat (unfairly) about.

Thankfully though, Nintendo have been on the lookout for cheaters, griefers and other gaming scum, deleting records and even going as far as to block it from anything like this happening again in the future. Good work! It'll be interesting to see if they go further with a fix in a system update.

Like I mentioned above, a game can totally be ruined by players who act like total douches. What is the point of griefing and spoiling the fun of all those who like the challenge and actually make an effort to play the game as it was intended by the developer? Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

If you really feel you must do it, then fine, but keep it out publics servers for gods sake!

I really hope they manage to fix this. It's totally awesome that they're managing to spot the cheaters and ban them from the leaderboards, but they won't keep that up for very long.

How irritating. :(

Good point Mog...The snaking in Mario Kart DS killed the game as badly as Mario Party DS not having WiFi.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
